Day 1

COLOMBO AREA

Upon arrival you will be met and transferred to your hotel. The rest of the day is at leisure.

Day 2

COLOMBO TO SIGIRIYA

Discover the Buddhist caves at Dambulla Rock Temple, a World Heritage Site which dates back as far as the 1000 BC. This site features five caves with over 150 images of Buddha. Afterwards, continue to on to Sigiriya.

Day 3

SIGIRIYA TO HABARANA TO POLONNARUWA TO SIGIRIYA

Enjoy a morning at leisure and in the afternoon see the remarkable ruins, statues, and monuments in the island's medieval capital. Explore the ancient World Heritage site, Polonnaruwa which was built in the 11th and 12th centuries AD.

Day 4

SIGIRIYA

Climb the 5th century Sigiriya Rock Fortress, a beautiful World Heritage Site. Rising 200 metres from the jungle, this giant fortress is known as the 'Lion Rock'. It has a moat, rampart, and extensive gardens ringing the base while steps cling to the side of the rock and lead to the ruins of the citadel. Afterwards head back to your hotel to enjoy the facilities available.

Day 5

SIGIRIYA TO KANDY

Visit the fascinating spice garden and see the different spices for which Sri Lanka is famous. Later arrive in Kandy, another of Sri Lanka's many World Heritage Sites, complete with bazaar, arts and crafts centre, and gem museum. Later see the Temple of the Tooth Relic and take in a cultural show later that evening.

Day 6

KANDY TO PINNAWELA TO PERADENIYA TO KANDY

This morning enjoy a trip to the famous Pinnawela Elephant Sanctuary, where you may see the elephants bathing in the river. Later, admire acres of trees, plants, and flowers at Peradeniya's botanical gardens. Afterwards, take the short trip back to Kandy and return to your hotel.

Day 7

KANDY TO NUWARA ELIYA

Journey into verdant hill country, visiting a tea plantation and tea factory to learn about the process for manufacturing tea, and taste a cup of Ceylon's finest. The afternoon is at leisure in Nuwara Eliya, Sri Lanka's most popular hill resort, with an invigorating mountain climate and beautiful scenery.

Day 8

NUWARA ELIYA TO BEACH HOTEL OR AIRPORT

Travel past St Claire's, Devon, and Aberdeen waterfalls, the lush Kelani River area (where the Oscar-winning Bridge on the River Kwai was filmed) and many small towns while enroute to the coast. Transfer to the airport this evening for your onward flight or extend your holiday at your chosen beach resort.
