Bangalore is a great business hub - and like any world-player in the business world, it has some good restaurants to suit all budgets. The city offers an array of Indian cuisines as well as international staples. There are many restaurants of a very high standard in the city and foodies will have plenty of options. Be aware that the quality of seafood varies in the city, which is quite a distance from the sea; in good restaurants it can be wonderful but it is often best avoided if eating out in Bangalore on a budget. Vegetarians will have many many options - in fact, the city's fast food staple is south Indian vegetarian cuisine. The quality of food in the many budget eateries varies hugely, but usually one can tell from the exterior if the joint is a bit dodgy. If you're eating on a budget, and want to sample some local variety, head to Shettara Beedi (Food Street), which is heaven for anyone who enjoys hawker fare. Note that the street only really comes alive after 6pm so it is best explored in the evening. For some glorious Bangalore tastes, try a thali at Konark, Punjabi fare at Oye! Amritsar, or a copious Mediterranean-style brunch at Casa del Sol.
Afghani / Gem Plaza, Infantry Road
Samarkand is a perennially popular restaurant serving Afghani cuisine. The open kitchen allows diners to view the cooking process, and reinforces the sense of eating fine food as a guest in someone's house. Samarkand caters to both vegetarians and non-vegetarians.
Seafood / Taj Gateway Hotel, 166 Residency Road
Bangalore's best seafood is prepared in a hundred different ways, yet always presented on a banana leaf in the signature coastal style of this famous eatery. The evocative and richly decorated interior reinforces the sense of the exotic, while the open-air courtyard is ideal on a summer's day. The fish curry, Goan baby lobster and seared ladyfish come highly recommended.
Asian / Taj West End
Succulent Vietnamese food served amidst chic authentic décor. Don't miss the crunchy raw mango salad and braised fish main. The rice paper roll starter served with shrimp, chicken, mushroom and zucchini in a satay sauce is an excellent way to start your culinary exploration - and for dessert, you simply have to try the mung bean ice cream or various fresh-food sorbets. Blue Ginger is an impressive and efficient restaurant, ideal for business lunches.
/ The Taj Hotel
With a contemporary bar-like design, this trendy restaurant is not to be missed. Boasting a selection of over 200 world-class wines to complement every course on the menu, eating at Graze is a full-on gastronomical experience. The lobster salad is not to be missed and the rib-eye steak and New Zealand rack of lamb are taste sensations. Reserving the Chef's Table will get you personalised service from the man himself, while he chats to you about your taste preferences and creates a menu designed specifically for your palate and wallet.
Italian / Vittal Malya Road
With an eclectic clientele, Sunny's serves up an equally varied range of dishes. The restaurant is particularly known for its gourmet Italian food. Be sure to try the signature Sunny's salad with blue cheese, and the black pepper fettuccine with wild mushrooms and sun-dried tomato is a must. The almond praline ice cream is a refreshing way to round off your meal. Sunny's also stocks a great selection of imported wines.
