In this blog our expert helps you with a decision for the Maldives – water bungalow or beach villa?
The Maldives, a picture-perfect group of low lying islands south-west of Sri Lanka, offer the best of both worlds to visitors. Those with an active streak will love all of the water sports on offer, whilst beach bums will revel in the ‘bounty advert’ surroundings. Our Travelmood travel expert Rachel recently spent some time here. In this blog she helps with an accommodation decision for the Maldives – water bungalow or beach villa?
Aside from your accommodation, choosing your island will be one of the most important aspects of booking your holiday. As all of the islands are different in size, this means that they offer different amenities and experiences. The smaller islands give an idyllic, serene experience and are perfect for those that want to do nothing more than laze on the white sands.
The larger islands of the Maldives boast more amenities and activities for guests to enjoy so are well suited to the more active holiday maker. Some are home to golf-courses and even their own football fields! Your island location is also important – those closest to the airport can be accessed by speedboat, while those further out require sea-plane transfers.
If you want a once in a lifetime experience then a water bungalow is for you. Situated over azure waters, the only sound will be the water lapping underneath you – which may or may not be for you. Water bungalows are secluded so do keep that in mind when you are leaving yours for the evening – it’s a long walk back down the jetty if you forget your sunglasses!
If you are a snorkelling fan then this will be paradise for you. Just imagine diving off your private patio in the morning and investigating the clear waters around your bungalow, it really is something. I recommend checking out the 4.5 star Komandoo Maldives Island Resort in Komandoo which offers some of the best overwater bungalows in the Maldives.
If your feet prefer dry land then a picturesque beach villa will more than meet your expectations. Start your day by walking onto the beach, feeling the warm sand between your toes and watching the sunrise. A beach villa offers the convenience of being close to the resort amenities, so you can relax and take each minute as it comes.
For something with a little extra, choose a Jacuzzi beach villa which features tropical gardens, wooden patios and a private jacuzzi for you and your loved one. Try the 4.5 star Meeru Island Resort and Spa where your villa will boast a four poster bed and unrivalled views of the lagoon.
