We give you the lowdown on the brand new Anthem of the Seas cruise ship
Cruise lovers will be as excited as we are about the Royal Caribbean’s brand new ship, Anthem of the Seas. This luxurious vessel has been described as “the world’s most revolutionary cruise ship” thanks to its innovative features and sophisticated lay-out. Our cruise expert Astrid was thrilled to attend the ship’s launch and see what all the hype was about. Here, she reveals how the ship exceeded her already-high expectations.
Technology on board
I was lucky enough to be in Southampton for the recent launch of Anthem of the Seas, Royal Caribbean’s most advanced ship to date. This cruise ship really does take luxury to a whole new level, offering high-tech features that are the first of their kind, not only at sea but anywhere in the world. Every room has the “wow” factor, with slick designs, USB outlets as standard and super-speedy wifi to upload all of your ship selfies. I couldn’t have been more impressed with the attention to detail on board.
The Anthem boasts a host of other technological advancements that I’ve never seen in all my time in the travel industry. Each interior statement is kitted out with LED projection screens which display real-time video footage of the sea. And the Ripcord by iFly simulator is particularly noteworthy for thrill-seekers. It allows guests to skydive at sea – definitely not for the faint-hearted!
Restaurants and bars on board
With 18 incredible restaurants and cafes on board, the Anthem really is foodie heaven. These produce some of the most creative, delicious cuisine you will find anywhere in the world. Silk offers exquisite oriental dishes while Wonderful is already becoming famous for its molecular gastronomy. The ship also sees Jamie Oliver launch his first restaurant at sea – a branch of the hugely popular Jamie’s Italian. Another amazing world first is Bionic Bar. Place your order via tablet, then watch as robotic bartenders get mixing in perfect synchronisation. You won’t have seen anything like this before — and the cocktails are top class, too!
My favourite thing about the Anthem is that it offers holiday-makers the perfect mix of luxury and adventure. There are so many exciting places to visit with the ship as your base. You could wake up in Florence and visit the Uffizi Gallery and Ponte Vecchio before lunching in a trattoria. Or spend your day basking on the soft white sands and splashing in the crystalline waters of the idyllic Caribbean. Whatever holiday you choose, you can tick a surprising number of stunning destinations off your must-see list.
Whether you’re choosing a cruise for the first or fiftieth time, I couldn’t recommend the Anthem more. My sneak preview convinced me that this is a definite game-changer in the cruise industry. With a range of Anthem cruises commencing from the UK this summer, I can’t wait to experience all it has to offer on board.
