2016 Caribbean holidays to put a pep in your step
As you may have gathered by now, we LOVE the Caribbean here at Travelmood. With each exotic island boasting stupendous scenery, wonderful adventure activities and fascinating culture, it’s pretty easy to see why. Jackie is an avid fan, sailing the length and breadth of the crystal clear Caribbean Sea whenever she gets a chance. 2016 Caribbean holidays are a treat to behold but what destinations should be top of your bucket list? Read on…
Vintage cars, cobbled streets, colonial architecture, lively salsa rhythms and all the colours of the rainbow – that’s Havana for you! Despite being the Caribbean’s largest city and a tourist hotspot, Havana in Cuba retains its charm and appeal. If you choose to visit Havana while on holidays to Cuba, make a beeline for Vedado, a chilled out neighbourhood where you can find the best restaurants and bars. The rum cocktails are to die for!
Exuma Islands, Bahamas
Home to swimming pigs and the oldest macro-fossils on earth, the Exuma Islands are unlike anywhere else in the Bahamas. Made up of 365 islands, they are home to only 3,600 inhabitants, meaning it’s easy to get away from the crowds and enjoy an authentic Caribbean experience. The jade hues of the water, pretty secluded beaches, exotic wildlife and rich history make it a wonderful Caribbean holiday destination, time and time again.
Featured in James Bond’s ‘Thunderball’, a holiday to Negril in Jamaica is definitely up there on my list of all-time favourite Caribbean destinations. Not only is the scenery beautiful, the locals are always in fantastic form – something that rubs off the moment you arrive. Watch the spectacular sunset from the famous Rick’s Cafe and sway to distinctive reggae beats for a night to remember.
Punta Cana, Dominican Republic
Looking at romantic 2016 Caribbean holidays. Some of my favourite Caribbean resorts are in Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic – the Breathless Punta Cana Resort & Spa and Excellence Punta Cana Resort. Both are adult-only, all-inclusive resorts – perfect if you are in need of some TLC and fancy a break from the kids. For the ultimate romantic getaway, why not indulge in a couples massage or sunset dinner on the beach?
Soufriere, St Lucia
Soufriere in St Lucia is nothing short of stunning. Located in the south of the island, this laid-back, picturesque town boasts a wealth of attractions, including colonial buildings and a bustling seafront. The landscape here is dramatic, with a volcanic mountain backdrop and an array of fabulous beaches. Head to the Diamond Botanical Gardens and take advantage of the relaxing mineral baths and hot springs.
