Bay of Plenty Holidays

Going back to the 19th Century, like many small service towns, Matakana was a buzzing village with pretty gardens and orchards. City folk would travel up to the countryside to visit and boats would sail up the river to the wharf, making deliveries of supplies and taking produce back to the city.
Known for its farmers' market, cafes and boutique shops, see the old dairy factory, the St. Leonard's Anglican Church, Matakana House, and the colonial wooden houses. The surrounding area contains several vineyards and the coastline from here is known as the Matakana Coast Wine Country.
