With its charming pedestrianised streets and small Piazzas, Taormina has captured the imagination of great travellers and writers for many decades. Taormina is set high on Sicily's 'Monte Tauro' providing stunning views of the Ionian Sea and the famous Mount Etna rising in the distance. The cobbled streets of the town offer an array of local shops, bars and restaurants set amongst bougainvillea and orange trees. At a sea level Taormina Mare offers a picturesque setting with many hotels and a few bars and restaurants scattered along the shingle beach coast line and the bay of Mazzaro. A cable car as well as a main road connects the two resorts of Taormina and Taormina Mare. Due to the hilly nature of Taormina, it is not suitable for guests with mobility difficulties.
