Introduction
The headland of Cilento, south of Naples is an untouched conservation area threaded with monasteries and medieval towns. It’s impressive cliffs and golden beaches are characterized by an untouched, rugged beauty that oozes southern authenticity.

PAESTUM
Paestrum was originally called Poseidonia, City of Poseidon, and was the most important Ancient Greek site before Sicily. This landmark of the Ancient world is now host to a fascinating archaeological museum and a collection of immaculately preserved Doric temples, sure to quench the desire of the most passionate history enthusiast.

SAN MARCO & SANTA MARIA DI CASTELLABATE
These two quaint fishing villages, attached by an endless stretch of golden sand, also share such charming sights as impressive caverns filled with pre-historic stalagmites and stalactites, and are both overlooked by hills embedded with ancient hilltop towns.

PALINURO
The area is celebrated for it’s unspoilt stretch of beaches, but Palinuro is also a gourmand’s paradise, with an abundance of restaurants that dish up sumptuous but inexpensive cuisine, and the rugged hills lavished with vineyards, producing the areas finest wine. Those in search of culture, and some spectacular cloisters should make the short drive from Salerno to Padula, where the monastery of Certosa di San Lorenzo lies sprawling amongst the pine trees.
